PRACTICING AWARENESS OF MICROAGGRESSIONS

  • Describe at least one example of a micro aggression which you detected this week or remember from another time. In which context did the micro aggression happen? What did you think and feel when you observed the microaggression or when you found yourself as the target of a microaggression?
It is funny that this assignment came this week when I did something that is consider as being microaggression toward someone. This week I had said something out the way to my male co-worker. Every day he comes to work and say something about what a woman suppose to do. Mind you he live with a women that he has no intentions of marrying, but always saying what she has to do to keep him happy.  In the same breathe he speaks about many other women that he is seeing or messing around with. So I said without thinking you are what us real women consider as a dog in a joking matter but really in the back of my head i was thinking this. This is wrong because I displayed that I was biases also.
  • In what ways did your observation experiences this week affect your perception of the effects of discrimination, prejudice, and/or stereotypes on people.
I see that even being unintentional microaggression toward someone it can be done without thought. Many people do not think before speaking, what comes in comes right out without going through a thinking process. So I see many people not thinking  how they effect people with what they say or do.
